WEST Devon police this week issued a warning to teenagers after some incidents involving indecent pictures captured on mobile phones. PC Becca Deane, the borough?s family community support officer with the family protection unit, said she had been ?very worried? by the incidents: ?Private images put onto a phone were distributed without the owner?s consent or knowledge. ?Possessing indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of a child, which for these offences is someone under the age of 18, is an offence ? as is taking, making and distributing these photos.? PC Deane said given modern technology, pictures or video from mobile phones could be posted on the internet ?within minutes? and she was concerned at the dangerous situation vulnerable young girls could find themselves in. She advised any youngsters who had received indecent pictures on their mobile phones to inform a parent, teacher, police officer or other responsible adult. ?If the pictures are deliberately kept and or shown to others, an offence is being commited,? warned PC Deane. If parents wish to contact police for advice, they can speak to a local officer by calling 08452 777444, or call into their local police station.
