DETECTIVES in Okehampton are appealing for witnesses after a 38-year-old man was robbed as he walked along the street. The incident happened on Sunday around 7.25pm in Wonnacotts Road, Okehampton, near to the footpath leading to North Road. Two men attacked the victim from behind, hitting him on the head and kicking him. Whilst he was on the ground they stole his wallet which contained in excess of £100. They then ran from the scene. The suspects are described as being white, around 18 to 20 years old and one had untidy hair. The victim was later treated at hospital for a minor head wound. Police are stressing that this was an unusual incident for Okehampton and are reassuring the public: 'This was an extremely unusual event for Okehampton where people in the main can walk the streets of the town in relative safety,' said DC Kim Brain. 'However, this has occurred and we are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have seen something suspicious.' The officer said they were unsure as to whether any instrument had been used in the attack or what the motive was.
