TAVISTOCK schoolchildren have this week been taking part in a nationwide writing project aimed at highlighting the problems of poverty and homelessness. The children from Tavistock Primary School were joined by West Devon poet Roselle Angwin as they took part in a poetry-writing workshop, organised by the Daisi Arts Project as part of the End Child Poverty campaign. Jonathan Steam, director of End Child Poverty, said: ?We want children?s voices to be heard and people to understand that poverty and bad housing is affecting the lives of millions of children. Adam Sampson of national charity Shelter, which is helping run End Child Poverty, said: ?This is a great opportunity for children to write about their experience or thoughts on poverty and bad housing, while learning about these issues in a creative and fun way.? Poems written by children taking part in the project are due to be published in an anthology in the New Year.
