TAVISTOCK poet Enid Gill has penned a verse to commemorate the town?s 900th charter anniversary. The poem, ?Thank You Henry?, expresses the town?s gratitude to Henry I, who granted the charter to Tavistock in 1105, and allowed it to operate markets. Enid, 87, who originally submitted her poem into the Wharf?s ?Poem of the Week?, will now see her poem published in the special anthology, ?Tavistock?s Medieval Inheritance?, which will be available on Goose Fair Day, Wednesday, October 12. A member of Tavistock Writers? Group, Enid is not new to having her work published. Her poems feature in many of the Wharf anthologies. She was also named as one of Forward Press? ?top poets?, after 65 of her poems were featured in their publications. Enid?s biggest success so far was in 1990, when the she had 50 poems from her collection published in a special booklet entitled, ?Reflections?. Enid said: ?It gives me a discipline and a direction in my life. I will never stop writing. ?It is a wonderful hobby and such a simple one. All I need is pen and paper and the ideas just keep coming to me.?
