A TAVISTOCK church will soon be one of the first churches in the world attempting to fill all its pews with poetry. St Eustachius is the setting for the ?celebration of love in 688 mini-poems? ? the latest opportunity for adults of all ages and children to share their creative talents. There are 86 pews in the church and the ?Poetry in the Pews? team aims to display eight poems in each pew on the theme ?love?. The poem can be based on people, places, beliefs, games, activities or even work! There will be three adult prizes and three prizes for contributors up to the age of 18. Adults are asked to donate 50p as a contribution to cover the cost of printing and laminating. The poems will be listed and on display in the pews from St Valentine?s Day 2008 until Sunday, February 24, 2008. Everyone is welcome to attend the grand free opening of the record breaking community event on Wednesday, February 13 from 7pm to 8.30pm in the church. On this night the prize winners will be announced. The deadline is January 31 and the poem?s length should be four lines with ten words maximum on each line. If entering the adult competition, state adult at the top of the poem. Under 18s should clearly include their age and contact details. The event is open to submissions worldwide.
