OKEHAMPTON Hockey Clubs recently held their end of season awards evening with many members being recognised for their achievements during the season.
Sandy Richards, representing England Hockey, presented Skills Awards to the junior players — for which the youngsters had worked hard all season to achieve the required standards.
The junior trophy went to 11 year old Jaden Reed for his commitment and development during the year.
The ladies' first team captain, Jennie Humphry, reported that the team had finished mid-table in the Trelawney one league after promotion the previous season. The leading goal scorer was Jo Moppett and player of the season went to Viv Weatherington.
Sarah Jones, captain of the ladies' second team was delighted that her team had finished second in the Plymouth and District league. Its top goal scorer was Kim Davey and player of the season was Sophie Whiteley.
The club's most improved player went to Hannah Whiteley with the club member award going to Jane Jones.
Both the men's team played in the South Western District one of the N4 Financial Solution Hockey league.
The teams showed significant improvement on their previous season's positions.
First team vice captain Simon Bourne was encouraged by the standard of the younger players who are now fighting for first team positions and looked forward to further development of the side next season.
First team player of the season went to youngster James Speak and the most improved player was awarded to Stuart Jarvis.
Ian Miller, the second team captain, also praised the younger members who are now playing regularly for the second team. Chris Searle collected the trophy for their player of the season with youngsters John Yells and Sam Spry sharing the award for the most improved player.
Club man of the year was awarded to Richard Jones for all his work with the junior section of the club as well as his commitment to coaching and umpiring.
