East Budleigh 3 South Zeal United 0 ALTHOUGH well beaten, Zeal put up a creditable performance against an experienced side two divisions above them, in the Bill Slee Cup on Saturday. The home side started strongly and forced several corners in the first ten minutes, but Zeal?s defence, marshalled by the excellent Reg Wonnacott, held firm and started to look more and more comfortable. But on the half hour one of the home strikers had too much time to turn inside the Zeal six yard box and his miss-hit shot went into the far corner to put the home side 1-0 up. In the first half Budleigh had most of the possession, but it was a different story in the second, as Harley Cann and Jerry Stephens started to make their pace tell and give the home defence some problems. But just as it seemed that Zeal might get an equaliser, a nothing ball played into their penalty area was diverted past Adam Cann in goal by one of his own defenders to put the home side two up and give them some breathing space. Zeal never stopped trying, and before the third goal went in ten minutes from time, outplayed the home side in the final 30 minutes and deserved to have scored a couple, which would have better reflected the flow of the game. This week Morchard Bishop away, kick-off 3pm.
