TAVISTOCK was awash with pink last Friday as people in the town dressed up to help support Wear It Pink Day for Breast Cancer.
Times advertising executive Carol Garbett went an extra step to support the charity and bravely lost her locks to raise thousands of pounds.
Carol said: 'I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported my head-shave campaign — all of the restaurants, shops and businesses for their kind donations, vouchers and gifts for a raffle which raised £350.
'Also to all the people who turned up on the day to watch my hairdresser Lyndy Ewings perform the shave.
'I was made to feel very special by the team from the Works who pampered me after the event.
'It has been a very enjoyable experience which would never have taken place without all the help and support from those involved.'
The Times team are still counting the donations but expect the total to be in excess of £2,000.
The Dukes Coffee Shop team also supported Carol's head-shave and from donations from customers they managed to raise £76.03.
Elsewhere in the town other businesses were pretty in pink, including First Glance where staff held a cake sale, games and were offering reduced treatments. They raised £65.95.
Employees at B2B telemarketing agency Broadley Speaking all dressed in pink for the day and even managed to get their clients involved.
Director David Conn said: 'We do a monthly fund raiser for various charities and this month we thought we would support Breast Cancer Awareness. We had three clients come in on the day and they all agreed to dress in pink. We had a pink parade and some of the men even wore dresses.
'We raised about £120 among ourselves. I think its generally good to just spend a minute to think about issues that affect us all.'
The Tavistock branch of NatWest Bank also donned pink outfits for the day and raised just under £70 for the charity.
