Penryn 40
Tavistock 10
TAVISTOCK kicked off with the strong wind at their backs, and immediately took the game to Penryn.
The front five competed well and the game see-sawed between the two 22 metres lines, with neither side managing to break through the defences. Penryn managed to keep control of the ball and Tavistock were unable to exploit the advantage of the wind.
After 25 minutes, Penryn got the break and winger Darren Pellows squeezed in at the corner. Tavistock were instantly back in contention, Richard West converting a penalty.
Unfortunately Tavistock were then reduced to 14 men, but they raised their game and camped on the Penryn line, but the defence held firm and as Tavistock spun the ball wide, it was turned over and Marek Churcher raced the length of the pitch to score. Tavistock did not let up and drove back onto the Penryn line. A quick tap penalty, by Duncan Law, gave Doug Lloyd the space to stroll over under the posts, Richard West converted.
The second half was a different affair, Penryn had the wind behind them and used it to great effect, pinning Tavistock back in their own half.
The visitors tried to run the ball back put as the ball was turned over Penryn were able to kick the ball back into the corners. Eventually the dam burst and Penryn scored a further four trys, all of which were converted.
Tavistock can take some comfort from their play, there was a lot of passion in their play and they held their own for much of the game, they just need to keep control of the ball for longer periods.
