CHAGFORD Country Fair and Sale organised by Rendells attracted a good entry of over 170 Sheep, 50 ponies, 60 lots of Poultry and over 200 lots of Sundries and Machinery earlier this month.
With something for everyone the market was jammed packed with even the trade stand operators reporting a reasonable trade.
In the pony section held in conjunction with the Dartmoor Hill Pony Association trade, was as difficult as expected, but some good prices were achieved with a top of 620 guineas for a four year old from Mr J Cole, followed at 300 guineas for a tree and a half year old Arab x Dartmoor gelding from P and V Pearse. Shetlands were in good demand with a mare and foal selling to 170 guineas.
In the sheep section rams sold to a top of 240 guineas for a Texel shearling from Mr M Mortimore with other rams to £220.
Ewes sold to a top of £85 for Suffolks from Mr P Cole and Zwartbles to £78.
Store lambs to £58 to average £51.95.
Blue Maran Pullets topped the poultry section at £15 each, followed by RIR pullets at £14. Call ducks to £8, Embdon geese to £9, hens to £9, rabbits to £5.
Sundries — Chicken coops to £110, horse drawn plough to £22, chainsaw to £75, push bike £36, firewood £11, railway tools to £60, quad bike £200, strimmers to £48, PTO sawbench £170 etc.
