WHAT a fantastic send-off John and Janette Rawlings received on Thursday December 29, with the wonderful and well attended service in the parish church and the excellent reception party that was held afterwards in the town hall. I?m certain that everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves even though the evening was saddened by knowing that we were saying goodbye to two exceptional people. However, I was surprised and disappointed to learn during the evening that the church was to be charged £230 by the town council for the hire of the hall. I do realise that the town hall has to be run on a commercial basis, but surely the council can make an exception of charging in this instance. These are two people who have served the local community admirably for 14 years and who have effectively been on duty for us all 24 hours a day and seven days a week. I would therefore ask the councillors to look at the charge that was made in this instance and cancel it as their thank you to John and Janette. Name and address supplied
