THE cheek of it! Tavistock was promised a proper rail link on the back of 750 new houses, the reason being that as Tavistock is the largest town in the area and has a growing population, many would use it to shop or commute to Plymouth.

But now we have a Calstock Parish Council going behind everyone's back to messrs Kilbride and telling them that we should not have a through service, only a shuttle service to Bere Alston just to suit them!

If people from Tavistock are going to go to Plymouth, the last thing they want to do is to mess about changing trains on a cold wet winter's day just to suit the parish councillors of Calstock.

Councillor Kirk (Letters, October 8) uses health care and employment in Plymouth for her case to Messrs Kilbride. I would suggest that Tavistock, with its larger population could equally use this, only on a much larger scale.

I would urge the town council and the West Devon Council to stop this selfish proposal in its tracks (no pun intended!)
