A CALL to dissuade farmers from parking in Tavistock?s Down Road was issued during a meeting in the town last week. Cllr Brian Trew told members of the town council?s properties committee that on market days, the road was sometimes filled with as many as ten lorries and trailers ? even though there was free parking for market users in Pixon Lane. Cllr Trew said: ?It?s been a major issue for some time in Down Road, where these people are parking very close to the entrances of houses. ?We ought to make representations to Ward and Chowen to try and persuade the farmers not to park there. ?Pixon Lane is a free car park. Perhaps we can approach the market and ask them to impress on their customers the hospitality we are offering there.? Cllr David Best suggested a simple sign pointing out the availability of free parking in Pixon Lane would be the most useful way forward. Cllr Norma Woodcock said perhaps an announcement could be made over the loudspeakers during market days. The committee agreed the council should make contact with Tavistock Livestock Market to express its concerns about parking of agricultural vehicles in Down Road.
