A?CHARITY transport service in Tavistock needs vounteer drivers.

The expansion of Tavistock Area Support Services transport service has prompted the need for drivers in outlying areas, as well as in Tavistock.

For the last two years TASS has developed a volunteer car service to help people access hospital, doctor, chiropody and dentist appointments or to help them visit a loved one in hospital.

The charity is also looking to recruit volunteers to drive minibuses, either locally or to take people on a trip.

General manager at TASS Andy Lyle said: 'As we look at delivering for the big community, the pressures placed on small local charities seem to increase. TASS is always looking at how we can make a difference to local people but as with everything else this puts the onus on volunteers to help deliver the service.'

Anyone who is able to spare a couple of hours a week or a month is asked to contact Kevin on 01822 617525.

TASS is also starting a knitters group for those who can — and cannot — knit.

The knit and chat sessions will be held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 2pm.
