TAVISTOCK Methodist Church and Bere Alston United Church will be playing a vital part next week in the Methodist Church?s ?Pray Without Ceasing?. The ?year of prayer?, which actually lasts for 14 months, was launched at the annual Methodist Conference on June 28, 2005 and will end on August 31, 2006. Across Britain, the 33 Methodist Districts were encouraged to organise continuous prayer events for a week or fortnight within the 14-month period. Tavistock Methodist Church and Bere Alston United Church are part of the Plymouth and Exeter Methodist Church, which will maintain constant prayer from May 12 to 26. Tavistock and Bere Alston will play their part on Thursday, May 25, being open for prayer from 8am to 8am the following morning. Other churches in the circuit will also be taking part for shorter periods during the day: Mary Tavy 10am to noon; Whitchurch 4pm; Zoar 3pm; Sydenham Damerel 6pm; Yelverton 3pm and there will be an Iona service at Princetown at 2pm followed by an hour of Prayer in Art. Tavistock Methodist minister the Rev Jeff Moles said: ?It?s so exciting to be part of a national effort like this, and we?re so pleased that we are able to be involved. ?As Christians, we spend much time in prayer but by focusing on prayer for this year, it makes us think about what our faith means to us.? The day in Bere Alston will include worship sessions, prayer walking, prayer walls, arts and craft as well as silent prayer, finishing with a prayer breakfast on the Friday at 7am. In Tavistock, as well as the church being open from 8am, there will be a gathering at Pork Hill to start the time of prayer, and a time of worship at 8pm in the church. Everyone is welcome to join in whenever and for as long as they like.
