Tavistock 17 Wadebridge 15 BEFORE the start of both the first and second team games players and spectators were asked to observe a minute?s silence in memory of the late Jim Sanders, a long time supporter and benefactor of Tavistock rugby. Tavistock were forced to dig deep to extend their unbeaten start to their Cornwall and Devon league season and in the process notched up three victories in a row against Cornish opposition. Wadebridge dominated the breakdown and this coupled with Tavistock initially struggling to get clean possession from the lineout put Tavistock under immense pressure. However the Tavistock scrum was dominant and as the game wore on Andy Hunt, Mark Davies and Darren Cole formed a secure lineout unit. After twenty minutes Wadebridge opened the scoring via Alistair McLellan who was worked free on the right to claim the try. Tavistock got back on level terms by half time with a try from Lee Greatrex, who broke down the blindside to score in the corner. The start of the second half saw Tavistock turn pressure into points and they raced into a seventeen five lead. Jude Rotton got the first score of the half when he was driven over the line in the middle of his forward colleagues. Doug Lloyd then scored finishing off a passage of sustained pressure by the Tavistock backs. Full back Josh Sutton added the conversion. At this point expectation was high that Tavistock would pull away for a comfortable victory. But Wadebridge hit back with twenty minutes remaining with tries from second row Gary Glynn and another from Matt Alston. If Shaun Hawkey had not missed the second, relatively easy conversion, Wadebridge would then have been on level terms. Tavistock were revitalised in the final fifteen minutes and although unable to extend their lead camped in the Wadebridge half and saw the clock run down. Saturday sees Tavistock travel to Exeter to face Wessex in the Cornwall and Devon League. Kick off 2.30pm.
