A NEW play park for youngsters will be officially opened by the mayor of Tavistock tomorrow (Friday).
It is situated on the site of the old swimming pool in Bannawell Street. Over the last few months, Tavistock Town Council has erected a timber trail for youngsters and a basket ball net will soon be in place for older children. There are seats, a picnic table and the wetland area has been safety fenced.
Col Roger Howard, town clerk, said: 'This is just one of the new play parks that the council intends to open in the near future. The format of those at Courtlands Road and Monksmead are being discussed with local groups, and the Bishopsmead park is being improved, again with local people's help.'
Col Howard said the council would like to hear from schools or arts groups who may be interested in painting a wall mural at the Bannawell Street play park.
Cllr Norma Woodcock will perform the official opening of the park at 11.15, in the company of members of the Bannawell Street Residents Association.
