THE Tavonians Theatre Company will be holding a reading of the play of the film 'Calendar Girls' next week.

The play is being considered as a possible production for the group, so this reading will give an opportunity for those who don't know the stage version to find out a bit more about it.

Calendar Girls is the true story of a WI group who were determined to raise funds to buy a comfortable sofa for the hospital where Annie's husband John was treated for leukaemia. Against the odds they produced a calendar that raised vastly more than they had ever anticipated. John's memory now lives on not only through their efforts and subsequent donations but also from the film and stage productions.

As most people know, the calendar involved several ladies baring all for a good cause. The stage production does involve similar scenes but very tastefully done with very clever use of dressing gowns and props. Although very pertinent to the play it is a short scene in a very uplifting story.

The play reading is open to members as well as anyone who might want to consider joining The Tavonians. It starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 27 and will be upstairs in the Guide Hall in Bedford car park.
