VOLUNTEERS are being sought for a play project at Dartmoor Prison and to welcome families to the visitors? centre.
Interested parties are being asked to commit to two sessions a month by the Prison Advice and Care Trust (PACT) which manages the visitors? centre and play area.
Development worker for PACT Sue Caley said there were so many opportunities in the trust to move on and progress that Dartmoor had recently lost some volunteers.
?Our training is all accredited and many of our volunteers go on to get paid work or into further education,? she said.
?Once our new volunteers go through all the security checks they will be trained to a NVQ level two qualification.?
PACT is trying to make it easier for families to visit Dartmoor Prison and the play area project is one of the schemes which helps to do this. Visiting families travel on average 125 miles to get to the prison and the visitors? centre was set up with the purpose of providing a warm and welcoming environment.
?We need volunteers to supervise and provide play sessions in the visitors? centre and another set of volunteers to welcome people in,? said Sue. ?There is also an opportunity to participate in a new initiative at Dartmoor which is all-day family visits.?
