VANDALS have struck yet again in the Meadows in Tavistock, ruining play equipment and destroying seats.
The latest attack was discovered on Monday morning when council workmen did their daily health and safety inspection of the park.
Roger Howard, Tavistock's town clerk, said: 'Yet again, they managed to smash part of the play fort, breaking some of the logs on the walkway.
'Still having energy after that, they tried to demolish one of the seats, managing to rip off the wooden back.'
Col Howard said it was 'so frustrating' when acts of vandalism were carried out by 'mindless individuals'.
'We're trying to get the Bannawell play park opened, and I have to drag the boys away from that to go and repair the damage done in the Meadows,' he said.
'And nobody every sees anything, that's what really annoys me,' he added.
Col Howard said the damage plus workmen's time probably cost the local taxpayer around £100 to put right.
Mayor of Tavistock Judith Williams said: 'I am absolutely furious as well as being devastated.
'These are big people doing this, not youngsters. Why are they doing it and why on earth doesn't anyone ever see them?
'We look at how we can improve things and put in things the youngsters will enjoy and this happens — I just don't know where we go next.'
Inspector Nick Rogers of Tavistock Police said: 'The area is still a focus for police attention — I would urge people to report any incidences they may witness because it does enable us to get a true picture of what is happening.'
Inspector Rogers said the crime reduction officer would be consulting with the town council to see if any changes could be made in the area to discourage mischief makers.
The Meadows has been targeted by vandals throughout this summer — thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused at Meadowlands swimming pool as well as previous attacks on play equipment in the park.
