LOCAL children (pictured right), assisted at the official opening of Buckland Monachorum?s newly-refurbished play park last Sunday. The chairman of the village play park fundraising committee, Camilla Gee, and vice-chair of the parish council, Richard White, performed the opening ceremony, aided by the children. The fundraising committee raised more than £6,067 towards the new equipment, with the support of the parish council and additional grants from Devon Community Foundation, the Community Council of Devon, Tavistock Lions Club, Mansbridge and Balment and the village youth club. Many fundraising events were also held. Mr White said the achievement of the committee was a good example of a community working together to improve a local facility. Mrs Gee thanked individuals who had donated money, together with parents and parish council members who had given their time and energy to ensure the success of the project.
