THE well lauded idea of increasing the facilities in the Bishopsmead area for youngsters to play with, has taken the wrong route, many of us residents think.

Basket ball for instance is a sport and in this confined space the constant pounding of a large ball (sometimes as many as three at a time if there is a group) on the tarmac surrounding the basket, has made it impossible for any of us to be able to sit in our gardens on a pleasant long evening — we have all been driven indoors.

The main users of this game are teenagers, almost adult, very few children as such.

Now there is to be a small goal-post, which means there will be the pounding of another large ball, this time being kicked — this being the sport of football.

We do not think it was ever intended to be used in such a way. We are all council tax payers, so surely we should be listened to?

Let the children play, but with the right things suitable for the area. The older ones can go to where such things can be played.
