A PLANNING application has been submitted to demolish a disused motel behind the former Jethro’s club in Lewdown to build housing on the site.

Geoff Rowe, aka well-known entertainer Jethro, obtained outline planning permission from West Devon Borough Council in April to knock down the disused clubhouse and other buildings including a stable block at The Coachhouse (application 1199/18/OPA).

Mr Rowe is now seeking planning permission to also demolish the disused motel to the south of the clubhouse. Detailed plans of the houses to be built on the site have not yet been revealed, but 30 per cent of the scheme must be affordable housing for local people. The site already has outline planning permission for 11 residential dwellings, approved in 2017.

The developer will be asked to contribute towards primary and secondary education and leisure facilities. People are being invited to comment on the application, 1666/20/OPA, on the West Devon Borough Council website.
