AN APPLICATION to convert a barn into a wedding venue on a farm near Bere Alston has been given the green light by West Devon Borough Council.

Planning officer Graham Lawrence, acting under delegated powers, granted planning permission and Listed Building Consent for the proposals at Rumleigh Farm at Rumleigh, Bere Alston (2723/21/FUL and /LBC).

The applicants Mr and Mrs Ketteridge, who already run a holiday cottage business on the farm, were applying to convert one barn formerly used for music concerts and other events into a venue for small weddings of up to 60 people.

Alongside it, another barn would be altered to provide an outdoor kitchen area suitable for barbecues and a pizza oven.

Bere Ferrers Parish Council approve of the application, saying in a statement ‘the council hope this business will be good for existing local businesses and local employement’.

A statement issued on behalf of the applicants said there was a shortage of venues for smaller weddings in the area and the proposals would help meet this demand.

Guests could stay in the existing holiday cottages and in the farmhouse, where B&B is available, on the site.
