ONE of Tavistock's best loved landmarks was hit by a spate of vandalism last week and left damaged.

The Pimple, the three-sided folly on Whitchurch Down near Tavistock Golf Club, was vandalised some time on the evening of Wednesday, July 21.

The Grade II Listed building, built by famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1914, sustained damage to one of the side of its roof and a tile was ripped off.

At the time of the vandalism there was also a lot of litter, with broken bottles and beer cans strewn around the moorland site.

Neil Woolcock, of Ward and Chowen estate agents, on behalf of the owner, said: 'Security is difficult and the owners are very disappointed that anyone would want to vandalise such a landmark as The Pimple, which is there for everyone to enjoy.'

He added that he was very grateful to 'some kind soul' who had taken the trouble to clear up the litter that had been disguarded by those misusing the site.

PC Graham Callender of Tavistock Police asked for any moorland walkers to call the police on 08452 777444 if they see any such incidents of vandalism.
