University A 1

Tavistock Men?s 1st 5

TAVISTOCK?S Men?s 1st IX were prepared for a tough battle against Plymouth University A side, who had also been promoted to South Division 2 last season.

The game set off in a very lively fashion. The University, however, were not prepared for the open and flowing play that Tavistock have built on during the early part of the season and in a relatively short period Tavistock were two goals ahead.

The University picked up their game with some sound defending but were unable to stave off the continuous attacks from both sides of the pitch.

Eventually, after a fine individual run by Mat Way, picking his course through a crowded circle, the ball came to John Barratt who slotted it home.

Tavistock went into the second half with a comfortable lead.

The University came out firing on all cylinders after the half time break and a deftly deflected strike eased passed the Tavistock keeper.

One of several penalty corners was fired out to Tom Honey who finally guided a well placed drag flick shot into the top left hand corner of the net.

Tavistock continued the pressure throughout the remainder of the second half to finish victors. Player of the match: Alistair Brown.

Devon Cup Match

Exmouth 2

Tavistock Men?s 1st 3

TAVISTOCK were drawn against the South East Division 2 Exmouth side for the Sunday Cup match.

After a successful but strenuous match the previous day and an exhausting session with the club sponsors the previous evening, Tavistock set off with surprising pace and should have been a pair of goals up within a very short period of play; several key players missing open goals.

The goal was eventually targeted and this allowed Tavistock to settle into their game. The very youthful Exmouth side fought extremely well and continued to apply pressure to the Tavistock defence who held off many attacks.

Half time saw Tavistock with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The enthusiasm of the Exmouth side continued at a pace after the half time break and they very quickly pulled a goal back.

Tavistock were exposed to a period of some great attacking play by the Exmouth side, which could not be matched fully by the Tavistock defence.

Exmouth pulled a further goal back and with the continued onslaught by Exmouth it was looking as though there might be a possibility of extra time.

Tavistock defence held out and the 3-2 victory sees Tavistock men?s first into the quarter final of the Devon cup. Man of the Match Phil Edwards.

This week Tavistock are away to United Services.
