I FEEL I have to respond to the news of the demise of the Carlton Cinema. It is another piece of the heart and soul of Okehampton being devoured for 15 flats next to a public house in a very narrow street ? and to put salt into the wound, being told by Cllr Roger Mathew that the claim of over-development was ?quaint? and to ?bite the bullet?! What a load of rubbish by someone out of touch! What good is planning when they keep letting the town down time after time. We have a bypass on the wrong side of the town, three supermarkets in a bottleneck, we lost the motel for visitors and Yer Tiz campsite for development. Where do visitors stay now in the town? Not to mention no coach parking. I feel sorry for our true shops being starved of much needed customers. We keep on shouting, but on deaf ears it seems. Cllr David Weekes 36 Mouses Meadow Okehampton
