THE work of two young Tavistock photographers features in a display currently running in Plymouth until the end of the month. ?Tamar Valley Resounding Images? celebrates the recently approved World Heritage Site for Cornwall and West Devon and has been organised by Tamar Valley AONB and Peninsula Arts. It captures the West Devon area of the World Heritage Site, comprising the Tamar Valley and Tavistock area. Matt Holloway and Russell Youles both studied photography at Plymouth College of Art and Design, where they finished top of their year. Matt?s section of the exhibition focuses on the landscape of the Tamar Valley, and includes ?Anchored Boats? taken at Weir Quay. Russell concentrated on the built environment ? the buildings and structures which once supported a thriving mining industry. With the Mount Foundry in Tavistock due to be converted into residential units, he carried out a photographic study of the building to make an historic and artistic visual record of the building prior to further development. The foundry site is the oldest in Tavistock and one of its many contributions to the mining industry was the design and manufacture of iron barges for use on the Tavistock canal. The exhibition is at the Royal William Yard, Plymouth until Thursday, October 26. Entry is free. For details, contact Peninsula Arts on 01752 238117.
