A FORMER member of Kelly College and Tavistock swim squads, 19-year-old Peter Freedman, has been selected as a member of the TRI UK Gatorade triathlon team in 2004.

Peter will now be representing sponsors TRI UK, Gatorade, FOOR, Adidas Eyewear, Saucony and Giant in a series of national and international races throughout the 2004 season.

The 2003 season, which was Peter's first in triathlon, brought him considerable success with several top ten finishes in national competitions. This year sees him move into the senior category from the junior ranks and he will compete in a number of top events, including the national championships being held in Liverpool in September.

In 2003 the TRI UK race team enjoyed successes that secured its reputation as one of the most successful teams in Europe with 100 top three finishes, more than 250 top three age group placings and 22 Great Britain and home nations team appearances.

Co-owner and TRI UK team manager Ali Brown said: 'Peter was a natural choice when we were selecting our team for 2004. A member of the national performance centre at Bath University and an athlete noted for his dedication to training, he was an obvious person to become part of our team. We look forward to a year of success together.'

Peter added: 'Last season, my first year in triathlon, was more successful than I could have hoped. I have a heavy programme of competitions this year both in Britain and Europe and I am looking forward to competing as part of one of the top triathlon teams.'
