WHIPPETS were the stars of the show at Crufts this year and a young dog from Okehampton was no exception.
Dawn Smith?s 15-month-old whippet Peter was a third prize winner at this year?s event in the Undergraduate Dog class.
Peter was placed in the top 50 out of 400 entries in the whippet section and his owner is very proud: ?Peter has been doing so well since we bought him as a puppy but to win a prize at Crufts is something very special,? she said.
?I was too nervous to show him in the end so my husband Rob did it and we were so pleased with the result.
?The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant ? so exciting.?
Peter booked his place at Crufts by winning the South Wales Championship Show recently.
Best in show winner at Crufts, a whippet bitch called ?Deedee? and Peter share the same father.
Mrs Smith, who works in Somerfield in Okehampton, said she had so many good luck cards and messages after an article appeared in the Okehampton Times prior to the event and wanted to thank everyone for their support.
