OKEHAMPTON Cycle Club last Thursday started their time trial series for 2002. In mild weather, five competitors lined up to take part.

The seasonal competition, which has been moved forward a month, saw several of the competitors pleased to set personal best times.

Brian Dixon came in with the fastest time of the night with 29.37. He set himself a personal best by beating his old time by 29 seconds. Jackie Rice, the first lady, set a new personal best of 33.31 and improved her previous time by more than two minutes.

Results: B Dixon, 29.37 PB; D Chowings, 32.32; J Rice, 33.31 PB; M Rice 33.41 PB; J Short 34.35 PB.

There is a one-week break from the course while Okehampton CC run their Open 10 time trial at Sourton on Wednesday June 5 at 6.30pm. The summer time trial series resumes on Thursday, June 13.

Anyone is welcome to participate on a roadworthy bicycle. First-time and casual cyclists often start off using a mountain bike or touring bike. If you are interested, the meeting point is at Mole Avon car park, on Thursday evenings, ready for a 7pm start.
