A SMALL group of swimmers from Kelly College Swim Squad competed at the Plymouth Leander Open Meet over the Easter weekend at Central Park, Plymouth.
The girls competing were Rachel Banfield, Melanie Clark, Jessica Clear, Sarah Reader, Charlotte Spicer and swimming for the first time for Kelly College, Hannah Salter.
Charlotte Spicer reached her first final at an open meet with a good swim in the 11 years 100m freestyle, coming home sixth and winning herself an Easter egg. In the stroke categories, Rachel Banfield came second in the individual medley overall.
Kelly College boys taking part were Benjamin Clark, Peter Freedman, Matthew Henry, Adam John, Daniel Kidwell, Joshua Lake, Oliver Lake, Joe Werry, and Christopher Wylie.
Final BAGCAT positions for the boys saw excellent swimming from Adam John, gaining several national qualifying times, enabling Adam to take first place overall in the 11 year age group. Joshua Lake took competition best times, district qualifying times and a couple of wins to place him fifth in the 12 year age group.
In the 13 year age group Matthew Henry, with a national qualifying time and two thirds was placed fourth with Daniel Kidwell fifth in the 14 year age group.
In the stroke categories Peter Freedman came first in the backstroke category, with two wins in personal best times and a second. Peter also took part in the finals of the 100m Individual Medley SKINS. This was Peter?s first attempt at this event and he came away with a fourth place.
Swimming in only his second open meet, Oliver Lake swam in two events, the 400m and 200m freestyle and achieved his first ever district times in both events. Benjamin Clark took third place in the boys? 12 years 100m breaststroke behind Joshua Lake in first position.
Kelly College?s next open meet will be the stage one and age group meet at the beginning of May at Bath University.
