TAVISTOCK Golf Club juniors continue with their busy schedule of events.

The May stableford again proved to be a high scoring event with Matt Tamsett finally completing his perfect round of golf scoring and impressive 48 points to win.

On the June 13 the boys battled for the H L Smith trophy and this was won by the narrowest of margins by Matt Hulbert with Sam Brockington as runner-up. Matt pipped Sam with a better back nine score. Both boys scored a net 67.

This was a very satisfying result for Sam who recently had his handicap cut following his earlier victory in the men?s Whitsun Bowl competition.

The annual putting competition was also closely fought, with the final being played between 12-year-olds Chris Gawman and Adam Burbidge.

Holes were being won with single putts and Chris Gawman was triumphant with a long single putt on the 17th.

Tavistock Juniors played their second league match on June 20 against Elfordleigh at home and won 3-2.

This was a friendly match which started off in wet and blustery conditions. Tavistock?s team was Adam Waddle, Sam Turner, Sam Webster, Tom Honey, Adam Burbidge, Joe Trembath and Luke Wakley.

Adam Waddle, Sam Turner and James Hulbert travelled to Holsworthy to compete in the second round of The Basil Steer trophy, Devon?s premier junior knockout competition, but were unfortunately beaten by Ilfracombe 3-0.

The next junior meeting is on July 11 at 11am ? all junior members are welcome. Junior lessons have also been restructured with girls only lessons on Sundays; boys and mixed lessons are also on Saturdays. Non-members are welcome to come and have a go but booking is essential.
