Tavistock Pumas 5 CSD 0 TAVISTOCK mixed hockey team the Pumas played a good strong game against CSD. As one of the youngest teams the Pumas have ever put out it was pleasing to see such a strength in skill level and fitness levels on the pitch. The game opened with Tavistock distributing the ball well over the pitch and Sarah Barratt, Robynne Honey and Jo Gaspar all worked well together in order to drive the ball up the pitch to the running legs of Dom Lovett and Tom Honey. The forwards were goal hungry and Laura Armstrong gave some early calls allowing the ball to be fed into the ?D? and struck at goal. It was through a direct strike that the first goal was scored by Robynne Honey. Tom Honey took a shot at the keeper who rebounded the ball but Robynne was on the post waiting and slotted the ball neatly past the keeper. Tavistock were playing some good hockey and the midfield play of Chris Wilson, James Barratt and Fiona Dunn was strong in their distribution skills and their defending skills. James Barratt hassled players as they drove down the pitch and these players were then tackled by his dad, John Barratt, who always won the tackle and fed it back out to Gaspar or Sarah Barratt. The odd time the opposition did appear to have a break keeper James Pitts gave early calls resulting in the free players being marked up. Lovett and Tom Honey continued to work well together and Tom Honey scored the second goal of the match through an excellent strike past the keeper. The second half saw Tavistock as the dominant team again with Dunn and Barratt pushing up more through midfield allowing the rest of the team to penetrate the ?D?. Armstrong continued to work hard and the exceptional play of the youngsters especially James Barratt, Sarah Barratt and Robynne Honey, could not be faulted. Robynne was goal hungry and it was not long before she scored again taking the score to 3-0. Chris Wilson fed the ball across the pitch to the speedy legs of Dunn and Sarah Barratt. James Pitts continued to be solid in goal and prevented the opposition from scoring when they did enter the ?D?. A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and the ball was quickly out from Tom Honey, a good reverse stick stop from Lovett allowing Jo Gaspar to take a hefty strike directly past the keeper. It was not long before Gaspar, hungry for more goals, gave a good call from across the top of the ?D? and scored her second goal of the match. The opposition did try to find gaps in the defence of Tavistock but Dunn, Wilson and John Barratt were solid in their game play. Player Of The Match: Robynne Honey.
