A CITY College Plymouth student from Tavistock beat off stiff competition to gain first place in her category of the UK's biggest construction skills competition.

City College Plymouth hosted the South West regional heats of Skillbuild 2013 — an annual event that sees budding construction trainees pitted against each other in their specialist skill.

Tavistock student Jenny Sibley gained first place in the painting and decorating category.

The south west heat was one of 15 regional heats taking place across the UK. Jenny may now have the opportunity to go on to compete at the UK final, where she will be in with a chance of winning the coveted title of 'Britain's Most Talented Construction Trainee'.
