AN OKEHAMPTON charity shop which has recently been refurbished says it is the vital support of contributors and customers that enable it to continue to raise funds to help those with life-threatening illnesses and their families. With the new year, essential work continues at the Hospiscare shop in the Victorian Arcade. The money raised thanks to public support provides nearby hospice facilities and much-valued one-to-one support for those in need and to their families in their homes. Mrs Vivienne Meaker, shop manager, said Hospiscare in Okehampton was hoping to maintain the standard of excellence for which the shop has a long-established reputation. Mrs Meaker said the standard achieved has been due to the varied local contributors who donated high quality clothes for men, women, and children, paperback books, bric-a-brac and other items of value. Mrs Meaker said: 'It is contributors and customers alike that ensure Hospiscare's work for the community is maintained. 'As a new year begins and Christmas gifts and replenished wardrobes provide the opportunity for discarded items to be put to good use, the voluntary shop staff would like to welcome all visitors, regular or new.' The Hospiscare charity shop in the Arcade is open from 9am to 4.30pm six days a week.
