CALLINGTON Tesco staff joined forces with colleagues across the UK to take part in a £1-million festive fundraiser that is believed to be the biggest ever held by the supermarket.
For the first time all Tesco stores, head offices and distribution centres joined together last weekend to 'Cycle to Lapland' and raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Staff from the Tavistock Road superstore shared stints on two static bicycles supplied by China Fleet Country Club, hoping to clock up enough miles to reach the home of Father Christmas.
Cancer Research UK is Tesco's Charity of the Year for 2012 and the staff at the Callington store are aiming to raise as much money as possible to help hit the £10-million fundraising target.
The money — raised by Tesco, its staff, customers and suppliers — will help fund 32 vital early diagnosis research projects across the UK.
Tesco and Cancer Research UK will also be working together to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of cancer, reduce people's anxiety about the disease and encourage them to visit the doctor if they notice anything unusual. This will help more people survive cancer and keep more families together.
