THE village of Bere Ferrers rang with hosannas on Palm Sunday as a large palm branch waving crowd joined in a procession through the village as part of the 750th parish anniversary Passion play. Despite a gloomy weather forecast, the sun even shone for part of the event, and the cast, who had been rehearsing for many weeks, were delighted with the support. Events were re-enacted on the quay and in front of the church gates — where Jesus, portrayed by the Rev Nick Law, spectacularly overturned the traders' tables — before finishing in St Andrew's Church. The church was packed and a short service followed the play. The next part of the play is the Last Supper today (Maundy Thursday), which is sold out. At 2pm tomorrow (Good Friday) there will be the trial and Crucifixion in the church and the Resurrection will be re-enacted on Easter Sunday at 11am — everyone is welcome to these two events.
