TAVISTOCK Methodist Church and St Andrew?s Parish Church in Whitchurch are part of a nationwide campaign to publicise the Alpha Course, which started this month. The Alpha Course, devised by an Anglican Church in London, is a way of explaining the basics of the Christian faith to a sceptical public. An information station was manned at the recent Tavistock Balloon Fiesta, with a video display, leaflets and posters as part of the campaign. Volunteer Ruth Newman said: ?Some of the people we chatted to had already heard of the Alpha Course. ?Although fewer people attend church regularly these days, there is still great interest in matters of faith.? An ?Alpha Party? has been planned in the function room of the Ordulph Arms on Tuesday, September 19, with a buffet supper and a short talk by the Rev Jeff Moles. Everyone is welcome but will need to reserve a place. The course itself starts at the beginning of October at Tavistock Methodist Church and at St Andrew?s Church. It consists of weekly meetings over a period of ten weeks and will include a short talk. Attendance is free.
