A PARTY night of music, dance and drumming to raise money for the One World Foundation Africa?s work in Uganda is to be hosted by the Wharf. ?Tavrica?, which takes place on August 5, will feature local bands Chimanimani, and the Get Downs as well as other local musicians. Chelfam Market Traders will be setting up a stall at the Wharf from August 1 to promote the event and they will sell their own produce and Fair Trade Ugandan crafts in aid of the charity. The One World Foundation Africa is a Ugandan based charity working with children and adults affected by HIV Aids, drought and civil war. It currently supports more than 600 children with educational materials, school uniforms and meals. Students of the Priory Chelfam Senior School in Tavistock have been raising money for the One World Foundation Africa through their weekly stall in the pannier market and last year raised more than £300 for the charity. The school has forged further links with Uganda, establishing a pen-pal link with pupils from schools benefitting from the work of the One World Foundation Africa. It is hoped that the ?Tavrica? event will raise more than £1,000 for the charity and encourage further ties between schools, musicians and traders in Tavistock and the communities in Koboga, Uganda. The event organisers have 20 Fairtrade baskets made by locals in the project area of Uganda and are looking for businesses and individuals to fill and decorate them for a blind auction at the event. Please contact the promoter at [email protected]">[email protected] if you would like to know more or could support the event with sponsorship. Tickets are available at £10 each from the Wharf box office: (01822) 611166.
