GOOSE Fair will again take over Tavistock next week.
There will be limited car parking facilities in Tavistock on Goose Fair day (Wednesday), and the few town centre car parks that are open will be filled early in the morning with local traffic.
As in previous years, a scheme to amend traffic routes and flow through the town will be introduced for the day with increased 'no waiting' restrictions with the utilisation of police 'no parking' cones.
There will also be a high police presence in Tavistock during this period and illegally parked vehicles will be removed without delay.
Vehicles parked causing an obstruction will also be deemed to be illegally parked and heavy fines plus a storage fee will be incurred for the recovery of the vehicle from the police compound.
To overcome these problems Tavistock Town Council is promoting a 'Park and Ride' scheme from three selected locations on the perimeter of the town. The locations will be the Yelverton Aerodrome, Lumburn Rise on the Callington road and Harford Bridge Holiday Park on the Peter Tavy road.
Tavistock Lions and the Plymouth-Tamar Lions Clubs will man and operate the Park and Ride scheme.
The Park and Ride locations will be identified on the main routes into Tavistock by temporary AA-type yellow road signs. Attempts will be made to park vehicles with disabled badges in designated areas as close to bus boarding points as possible. There will be limited disabled facilities on buses available from the Yelverton site.
To avoid crowding at bus stops in Tavistock, this year the Yelverton buses will drop off and pick up outside the Devon County Council Highways yard in Pixon Lane.
First Devon and Cornwall buses will be co-ordinating the bus services, and will run frequent shuttle services to strategic points in the town centre from the Park and Ride locations. The bus service will operate between 8.30am and 10.30pm, depending upon demand.
A flat rate of £5 will cover the bus journey into Tavistock and return for all occupants of a car left at Lumburn Rise and Harford Bridge Holiday Park.
The charges from Yelverton will be £2 per adult and 50p per child under 16.
