THE majority of parishes in West Devon did not see an election for their town or parish council last Thursday as there were insufficient candidates for a poll to be held.

But an exception was Mary Tavy, where 12 candidates fought for the nine seats.

Elected were: Terry Pearce 321, Anita Prosser 310, Paul Williams 293, Lorraine Beeley 287, Ray Aston 256, Julia Tarrant-Boyce 252, Mike Roe 249, Michael Cook 235, Martin Robins 229.

Not elected: Roger Page 185, George Hill 156, Michael Smale 155.

There was also a contest at neighbouring Peter Tavy where eight candidates were contesting for seven seats. Elected were: Edward Dodd 130, Patrick Cashell 103, Ken Ball 102, David Chanter 100, Jim Jeffery 81, Bill Lane 80, Peter Clarke 72.

Not elected: Harry White 49.

There was no contest in the parishes of: Bere Ferrers, Brentor, Buckland Monachorum (Buckland Harrowbeer), Buckland Monachorum (Buckland Village), Burrator Grouped, Dartmoor Forest (Huccaby Ward), Dartmoor Forest (Postbridge Ward), Dartmoor Forest (Princetown Ward), Gulworthy, Horrabridge, Lamerton, Lewdown Group, Lifton, Lydford, Milton Abbot, Sampford Spiney, Stowford, Sydenham Damerel, Tavistock (North Ward) Town Council, Tavistock (South Ward) Town Council, Tavistock (South West Ward) Town Council, Thrushelton, Walkhampton Dousland, Walkhampton Village and Whitchurch.
