TAVISTOCK College's new principal has put the school's uniform redesign on hold after listening to community views.
Acting principal Helen Salmon took the decision when parents and members of the public told her they liked the current uniform and believed introducing a new one was not a priority.
Mrs Salmon said: 'Our students came up with some excellent designs for a potential new uniform and the next stage was to consult with the public to see which they preferred and wished to adopt.
'While discussing the idea with primary school and college parents — as well as members of the community — it was clear they didn't want to see the college expending energy on changing the uniform while there were more important issues to address.
'The college is mindful that times are tough and that the economic climate is difficult for some families. We therefore believe it would be unfair to expect parents to purchase new uniforms at the moment.
'In the future this will be reviewed and revisited. Our main focus for your children will be to improve learning.'
Mrs Salmon stressed that the students' designs were being kept and would be re-examined when the college had made improvements to teaching and learning.
The college, which was placed into special measures by education standards watchdog Ofsted earlier this year, will be discussing its progress with parents at a feedback meeting on Monday, November 1 at 6.30pm.
Mrs Salmon and college governors will explain the policies which are being put in place, as well as answering questions from parents.
