AN exhibition of Brian Latham paintings is currently at The Wharf, Tavistock, until Friday November 30.

Following active military service during the second world war Brian Latham studied at the Royal College of Art in London.

Moving to the West Country over ten years ago he found the Tamar Valley and surrounding moorland particularly stimulating. Sketches and photographs taken on the spot are studied in the studio. Once started it often takes weeks or months to develop paintings into more abstract forms.

In addition to these works, Brian Latham adopts a different approach in the depiction of the nude. Drawings made from life are used as a basis for larger works with paint being poured onto the surface emphasising the smooth lines of the female form.
