THE latest exhibition of oil paintings by well known artist Alan Kingwell can now be seen at the High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown until March 1.

Alan, who is Plymouth based, paints scenes of beauty from Dartmoor to the ever-changing coastline.

Alan has been a professional artist since 1985, before which he worked for the Forestry Commission, where he had the opportunity to experience the countryside and coast in their many different moods throughout the year.

He said: 'As I put my heart and soul into my work I often find it difficult to part with a finished painting — I like to live with a painting for a while, but that's rarely the case, for as soon as it's completed it goes off to a gallery and I never see it again.'

One of the highlights of his career was having a painting selected as one of 200 chosen from 15,000 entries to be exhibited and sold at the Mall Galleries in London as part of The Daily Mail's 'Not The Turner Prize 2004'.

Alan said that one of his delights is to share his painting techniques by holding regular workshops.

He said: 'Some of my students have gone on to exhibit and sell their work and this makes me feel very proud that I have helped them to achieve it. My art means much more to me than just an income, and not being able to paint is a thing that I cannot contemplate.'
