THE story of the war memorial railings in Bere Alston and Bere Ferrers has had an unexpected final paragraph with a request from the local branch of the Royal British Legion for the railings in Bere Alston to be changed from white to black.
There was disagreement over the colour of the railings in Bere Ferrers after they were painted black by residents, with some people calling for them to be returned to white in line with those around the memorial in Bere Alston.
However, the parish council finally agreed that they could remain black.
Both war memorials will now match each other with the agreed black paint.
