A PUBLIC meeting in Bere Alston has heard residents and local councillors’ views on a proposed new Co-op convenience store on a field in the village.

All 90 seats were taken at the meeting in Bere Alston Parish Hall on Wednesday night, to hear representatives from the Co-op and property developer Westcountry Land outline proposals for a new store on land off Bedford Street.

The store would replace the existing one in Fore Street, which a representative of the Co-op told he audience was ‘no longer fit for purpose’.

A planning application has now been submitted to West Devon Borough Council and people are being invited to give their views for and against.

The documents can be found on the planning section of WDBC’s website, searching under application number 2215/22/FUL.
