Cullompton U14s 19 Okehampton U14s 34 OKEHAMPTON, playing into the wind, started well. Both backs and forwards gained ground taking the ball close to Cullompton?s try line. From a maul Rob Long rolled off the side to score. Cullompton hit straight back with a try. Unable to kick into the wind, the Okehampton pack took control of the game with some excellent driving play, with Jake Chisholm scoring in the corner after a good forward drive. With plenty of good ball centre Carl Poynton started to carve open the Cullompton back line. Running in one try from inside his own half, he soon did the same again with Chisholm following up to touch down the try. Half-time score of 24-5 looked good for Okehampton, but too many kicks trying to use the wind were giving away the ball. When Okehampton settled and started to run the ball again wing Carl Goodall scored in the corner finishing off an excellent team try. Poynton then kicked a penalty to add to the three conversions. Cullompton did add two tries at the end as Okehampton tired. Man of the match, Carl Poynton. Bude U12s 12 Okehampton U12s 28 OKEHAMPTON?s forwards soon imposed themselves on the opposition pack and began to drive towards their opponents? line. Winning their own ball on halfway Jordan Lee passed to Dan Curtis who broke blind, with the whole park in support. Chris Knott received the ball five yards out and crashed over for a fine try, converted by Dan Curtis. Just before half-time Bude gave away a penalty, quickly taken by Peter Gillard who raced into the corner for a well taken try. Curtis converted. In the second half, Bude took advantage of a defensive slip near the Okehampton line and scored. This merely galvanised the Okehampton forwards into action and good interpassing between the forwards led to a scrum five yards from the Bude line. Jordan Lee broke on the open side and crashed over from five yards out. Bude came back and scored a controversial try against the run of play which they converted. Okehampton not to be outdone recycled the ball through their forwards with Matt Harding, Matt Glew and Thomas Mallett driving towards the Bude line. From a five yard scrum Jordan Lee fed Peter Gillard, who scored a fine try in the corner. Jordan Lee converted. This week, training, all weather, Friday 6pm; Sunday, Ivybridge, home. Bude U11s 7 Okehampton U11s 35 OKEHAMPTON were against the wind in the first half and took the lead with a strong run from Sam Ewen. A downwind kick from Bude gave them good field position for them to score from a short penalty. Matt Johns scored a second try with a typical sniping run which coupled with some excellent try line defence from the Okehampton forwards ensured the Okehampton lead at half time. The second half was dominated by Okehampton resulting in two tries for Buster Francis who led the forwards with excellent strong play in both the tight and loose. The try of the game was the result of some quick thinking in the backs with Matt Johns finding Sam Ewen on the blind side who ran it in for his second and Okehampton?s fifth try, all of which were successfully converted by Matt Johns. Bude U10s 10 Okehampton U10s 10 THE Okehampton Under 10s journeyed to Bude for their first match of the New Year. Bude had a poor turn out and requested to borrow a pair of Okehampton?s reserves. In gusty rain the two sides battled it out with impressive defensive work in tackling and in the mauls. Bude managed to cross the line once in the first half. The second half followed the same game plan until a brilliant breakaway try by Luke evened the scores. Bude rose to the challenge and crossed again in the corner almost going into touch. More counter attacks followed and Okehampton pressure allowed them to cross the line again, only for Matt to fumble the ball as he was touching down and have the try disallowed. All was not lost as Luke again made a resolute charge and scored the equalising try.
