TOWN criers from West Devon and East Cornwall will be proclaiming their art at the tenth World Town Criers? Championships at Newquay in Cornwall during the week beginning May 10.

Criers from all over the world will be attending the championships, and joining them will be Bob Rose from Tavistock, Ross Chard ? complete with dog Millie ? from Hatherleigh, Dennis Cook of Callington and Hilary Fairhurst from Calstock.

Bob Rose said there would be a week of events from May 10 to 17, and the 128 or so entrants would include a crier from Australia who imitated the sound of a kookaburra instead of the traditional oyez. The events will be held at Killacourt and Dairyland.
