A SOUTH Tawton parish councillor is asking people to contact him if they witness irresponsible dog owners in the village.
Despite paying for the services of a dog warden, members of South Tawton Parish Council said last week that dog fouling was still a problem.
Cllr Julian Pillar said he thought more should be done than just paying the £340 a year to have the dog warden.
He suggested making people more aware of the problem and point out dog fouling was an offence by dropping leaflets through their door.
'Some days it is fine but then 24 hours later it is abysmal,' he said.
Cllr Bill Cann agreed: 'The road to the shop and the school is a mess,' he said. 'The system is not working to a great degree and anything we can do to improve the situation we should. It is not good enough.'
Cllr Pillar is urging people to phone him if they witness owners failing to clear up after their dogs.
'I want them to give me times and locations,' he said. 'They can be anonymous if they want — it is important that we make people more responsible.'
Cllr Pillar can be contacted on 01837 840054.
